These basic SEO tips and techniques, when implemented properly, can have a huge impact on your site. This could mean better ranking on search result page and higher traffic from search engines, which translate to more profit and more opportunities. What You Need To Understand About SEO
1. SEO Takes Time
Search Engine Optimization is a continuous process. You can’t possibly optimize your website and forget about it. Why? Because search engine algorithm changes from time to time and if your site is not adjusted to these changes, then the SEO implemented earlier will go to waste. SEO needs a long-term outlook and commitment.
2. SEO Results
Don’t expect overnight success with SEO. As I’ve said, SEO takes time. Those companies promising you results in as little as a week are joking. Be wary with those companies claiming to have broken Google’s algorithm and would guarantee you top ranking overnight. Come to think of it. If SEO takes time because of the processes involved, it’s only logical to think that results will come later.
3. Learn More About SEO
Either you’re handing down the optimization of your site to an SEO specialist or you’re doing it yourself, it pays to learn more about it. Besides, the net is rich with FREE information about search engine optimization. Just make sure that you read SEO tips and techniques from reputable sites or you might end up being misinformed. Because SEO is dynamic, learning SEO should also be a continuous process. If you can’t commit to this, you might want to consider paying for SEO services.
4. Build The Best Website
While not all websites ranked on top of search engine result pages are the best in their niche, it still make sense to build the best website. Being the best on your niche or industry is a leverage over your competitors. That is why, you are highly encouraged to build websites related to topics of your specialty or your interest.
Once in awhile, sit down with your friends or ask your readers or simply do a personal assessment of your site. Figure out what are your strengths and weaknesses. Work on your weaknesses and further reinforce your strengths.
5. Topics And Keywords
Initially, before you start working on your website, you need to think of your topic. I highly suggest you work on something you are knowledgeable of or at least you have sufficient resources to keep it going. Once you have your website, identify keywords that you want to rank high with. Do a quick research. There are several FREE online tools available at your disposal, take advantage of them. When you’re done, make a list of your keywords and identify those that have the least competition that can bring you targeted traffic.
6. Write Unique, Quality And Relevant Content
The key to ranking well on search engine are uniqueness, quality and relevance. If you want your site to rank on a keyword, then you should work on writing unique, quality and relevant content. For instance, you want your blog to rank well on the keyword “Search Engine Optimization”, then you should build more content revolving around it.
7. Use Available Tools And Resources
Google and Yahoo! are two of the largest search engines that both offer useful tools that can help you with your search engine optimization. 8. Build Link Intelligently
Link building is one of the more important SEO strategy that you need to do. When you do this, make sure you do it intelligently, and by that I mean build quality links. Quality links are links coming from reputable sites relevant to yours. You can also submit your link to trusted directories like DMOZ and Yahoo! You can also write a guest posts on other blogs, submit articles to article directories, issue a press release etc. Be creative! FaceBook, FeedBurner and Twitter are some of the most power social media that you can take advantage of. Use these sites to showcase your website and reach out to your potential readers/clients. The best social media are free so why not use them. Getting your website to the attention of other people can work miracles. In fact, some websites thrive on Social Media. Others claim it to be the best substitute for search engine traffic.
10. Diversify Your Traffic Sources
Like investments, you should also diversify your sources of traffic so that in case something goes wrong with your SE traffic, at least you have other sources. There have been cases of online businesses who went bankrupt simply because their traffic mainly comes from search engines. The moment search engines change their algorithm, their business collapsed. Don’t go through the same experience by diversifying your sources of traffic. Other than search engines, invest on referrals from other sites or social networks.
